Hoisting
Some furniture simply will not fit through the stairwell or into the elevator. When a sofa, piano, wardrobe or crate is too large for the building, our crew hoists it safely through a window or over a balcony — an everyday challenge in New York City that we handle with ease.
When hoisting is the answer
- Narrow or winding staircases in walk-ups and brownstones
- Elevators too small for large sofas, beds or wardrobes
- Pianos and other heavy, oversized pieces
- Crated antiques, artwork and furniture loaded directly to or from a shipping container
How every lift is carried out
- Survey. We assess the item, the window or balcony opening and the street below, and plan the lift well before moving day.
- Protect. The piece is wrapped and, where needed, crated or strapped to a platform so it stays level and secure.
- Lift. Using rigging and straps, our crew raises or lowers the item through the opening, guided by team members at the window and on the street.
- Place. Once inside, we unwrap the piece and set it exactly where you want it.
Unsure whether your furniture will fit? Mention it in your self survey or get in touch, and we will advise you well before moving day.
